Abstract
Logic was introduced for the first time in history by Aristotle. There is no doubt that the six books titled Categories, On Interpretation, Prior Analytics, Posterior Analytics, Topics, Sophistical Refutations are parts of Organon. However, it is discussed whether Rhetoric and Poetics are parts of Organon. Although not as clear as in the Islamic world, statements about Aristotle’s Poetics as a part of logic and one of the five arts can be found in some of the works of Greek commentators. Islamic logicians like Alfarabi, Ibn Sina and Ibn Rushd explicitly examined Rhetoric and Poetics in logic and reconstracted Aristotelian poetics theory. Almost all logicians in Islamic world saw the art of poetry as a part of logic like Alfarabi. Ibn Sina evaluated poetry as a part of logic in his short works, in addition to this, he handled the art of poetry in a separate book in Fann al-Shi‘r that is the last book of logic section of Kitab al-Shifa. In this article, we will try to reveal how Ibn Sina handles the issue in the context of discussions about whether poetry is a part of logic or not.
