Abstract
Specific learning disability [SLD] is a condition in which individuals have difficulty in learning basic skills such as reading, writing and mathematics despite having normal or above normal intelligence levels. Examining the opinions and experiences of classroom teachers about the education of students with SLD is important in terms of obtaining information about the education process of students with SLD. In this context, this study aimed to examine in depth the opinions and experiences of classroom teachers about the education of students with SLD. The research was designed with phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group of the research consisted of 15 classroom teachers working in four different schools in the central district of Artvin province. A semi-structured interview form and a personal information form were used to examine the views and experiences of classroom teachers in depth. The data obtained were analyzed with the content analysis technique. According to the findings of the study, it was revealed that classroom teachers' knowledge about SLD was superficial, they identified students when they had difficulties in reading, writing and mathematics, and they did not find themselves sufficient in the education process of students with SLD. It was found that students with SLD frequently used visualization/concretization, one-to-one work, gamification and use of materials to improve their academic skills. It was determined that the families of students with SLD avoid accepting this condition of their children and they should receive family education. It was concluded that classroom teachers could not allocate enough time to students with SLD due to overcrowded classrooms and that students with SLD were exposed to bullying by their peers with normal development.
