Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to determine the learning styles of students attending fine arts high schools and the teaching styles adopted by their teachers, as well as to explore the relationship between these two variables. A descriptive survey model, a type of quantitative research design, was utilized to conduct the study. Data were collected using the 'Learning Style Scale' and the 'Teaching Style Scale.' The sample consisted of 258 teachers employed in fine arts high schools located in different provinces of Türkiye and 1,942 students enrolled in these schools. Findings revealed that teachers predominantly favored guiding and personal teaching styles, whereas the authoritarian style was the least preferred. Regarding students, dependent and independent learning styles emerged as the most prominent. Significant differences were found in teachers' teaching styles based on their years of service, the province of employment, and whether they had participated in in-service training programs. Similarly, students' learning styles showed significant variation according to gender, grade level, department, academic performance, and parental educational background. The overall results emphasize that enhancing compatibility between teaching and learning styles may contribute positively to the quality of art education. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers diversify their instructional approaches and take into account individual learning differences to foster a more effective educational environment.
