Abstract

Algodoo, the 2D physics simulation software, has been utilized in educational settings to facilitate student understanding of physics concepts such as mechanics, light, optics, and waves. It promotes conceptual understanding, science process skills, creativity, problem-solving capabilities, and student success. Moreover, previous research conducted with in-service and pre-service science teachers focused on understanding Archimedes' principles, improving science process skills, and forming natural world conceptualizations in physics education. Effectively integrating this emerging technology in classrooms requires an understanding of what knowledge teachers need. Teachers require various types of knowledge to implement new technology in real classroom settings. This type of knowledge is called Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). However, scant research uncovered the extent of teachers' understanding of TPACK domains, particularly in using Algodoo. It might be valuable to create an environment where we can define and highlight the enhancement of teachers' knowledge through this specific intervention. The current study aims to explore the impacts of an Algodoo-Supported Physical Science Teaching Course on Science Teachers' TPACK Domains. Eleven science teachers participated in a 10-week Algodoo-supported physical science teaching course. Data was collected through a TPACK survey, lesson plans, and teacher interviews. The survey was conducted before and after the course, while interviews were carried out and lesson plans were gathered afterward. The results showed that the course did not significantly contribute to overall TPACK knowledge. However, the teachers' content knowledge increased meaningfully throughout the course.
