Abstract
Fizik derslerinde matematiksel modeller, çoğu kez öğrencilerce ezberlenecek salt formüller olarak görülmesi, modellerin ya da eşitliklerin fiziksel anlamlarının kavranılmamasına neden olmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Genel Fizik I ve II derslerinden başarılı olmuş Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği programı öğretmen adaylarının ilk hızsız serbest düşme hareketine ait matematiksel modele ilişkin anlamalarını belirlemektir. Farklı dört sınıf seviyesinden 40 öğrenci ile yürütülen çalışmada, modelin fiziksel anlamı, modelde geçen değişkenler ve modelin oluşturulmasındaki süreç sorgulanmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre öğretmen adaylarının yaklaşık üçte ikisi modelde geçen değişkenleri anlayabilmekte, beşte biri modelin fiziksel anlamını kavramış ve dörtte biri ise modelin oluşturulmasında göz ardı edilen gerçekleri bilebilmektedir. Sonuç olarak sınıf düzeyi açısından incelediğinde öğretmen adayları, programlarındaki ilgili dersi başarılı olarak geçmiş olmalarına rağmen basit temel bir matematiksel modeli kavrayamadıkları ortaya çıkmaktadır.
That mathematical models in physics often seen as mere formulae to be memorized by students leads to incomprehension of physical meanings of models or equations. The aim of this study was to determine science student teachers’ understanding, who have been successful in General Physics I-II courses, of mathematical model of free fall motion without initial velocity. In the study carried out with 40 student teachers physical meaning of model, variables included in the model and the process in constructing model was under examination. Results showed that approximately two third of participating student teachers identified the variables in the model, one fifth of them clearly comprehended physical meaning of the model and one fourth of them realized the realities ignored in constructing the model. As a result student teachers graduated from their programme without a clear understanding of simple basic model in physics even though they successfully passed the related course in the programme.
