Abstract

In this study, it was examined whether it is effective to convey one of the nuance terms taught in piano lessons with approaches based on both pre-listening and elaboration strategies. An experimental design was chosen for the study and experimental and control groups were formed for these experiments. Piano pieces suitable for the term piano nuance, which is the term chosen to work with the students, were determined and pre-test and post-test processes were carried out with the help of these pieces. Two experimental groups were given examples with pre-listening, and the other group was described the piano term through simulations. The control group was worked with classical explanations and repetitions. Each student was worked with individually for 20 minutes and the final performances were measured. The test scores obtained were tabulated and transferred to the computer. The statistically processed data generally indicate that both experimental groups were more successful than the control group with a slight difference. While both experimental groups scored close to each other, the control group exhibited a lower score distribution.
