Abstract
The effects of negative experiences in childhood appear especially during the university period when the individual gains independence by leaving the family. Abusive behaviors such as abuse and neglect in childhood can cause permanent damage to the physical, emotional, cognitive and social development of individuals. Individuals can create different reactions to the traumas they experience. One of the reasons for this difference is that each individual's level of resilience differs. Psychological hardiness affects both negative childhood experiences and reactions to these experiences. Romantic relationship satisfaction, which is another variable of the research, can increase or decrease as a result of perceived negative childhood experiences and psychological resilience level. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between perceived negative childhood experiences, psychological resilience and romantic relationship satisfaction in terms of some demographic variables. The study group of the research consists of 432 university students who have a romantic relationship. Personal Information Form, Childhood Mental Trauma Scale, Psychological Resilience Scale and Relationship Satisfaction Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. In the statistical analysis of the data, IBM SPSS Statistics v20.0 program was used and Pearson Product Moments Correlation Coefficient, Independent Sample t-Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Multiple Regression Analysis techniques were used. As a result of the research, there was a negative significant relationship between perceived negative childhood experiences and resilience and relationship satisfaction, while a positive significant relationship was found between resilience and relationship satisfaction. In addition, university students' perceived negative childhood experiences and psychological resilience levels do not differ according to gender, age and duration of romantic relationships. While perceived negative childhood experiences differ in terms of socio-economic status, family structures, alcohol/substance use and receiving psychological support, psychological resilience differs in terms of socio-economic status. Romantic relationship satisfactions do not differ in terms of sociodemographic variables. It was obtained as a result of the analysis that perceived negative childhood experiences and psychological resilience predict romantic relationship satisfaction. The findings obtained as a result of the research were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature and suggestions were presented.
