Abstract
This study aims to examine teachers' views and competencies during the process of unplugged coding training workshops. Case study, as a qualitative research method, was adopted in this research. Before the main study, 112 computer technologies teachers, working in different regions of Turkey, were applied a need recognition questionnaire pertaining to CSU (computer science unplugged) activities. Under the light of the data obtained, the content and schedules of pilot study and workshop processes within the framework of main study programs were formed. The research was conducted with 9 computer technologies teachers, working at secondary level schools under the administration of MEB (Ministry of Turkish National Education) in Ardahan province. The study involved 5 days-of-unplugged coding activities workshop process during the fall semester of 2020-2021 academic year. 'Interview Forms', 'Teacher Documents', and 'Activity Evaluation Forms' were utilized as data collection tools. Data obtained through semi-structured interview forms and teacher documents were presented as direct citations and in this way, teachers' views as to CSU activities were aimed to be determined. Activity evaluation forms and the activities prepared by teachers at the end of the workshops were evaluated by referees and thus, their competencies were tried to be determined. İn addition, teachers were observed to have had positive view that CSU approach makes coding training process more enjoyable and effective for students, who generally tend to perceive it difficult and complicated. Under the light of qualitative data obtained throughout the research, it was observed that activity designing competencies of teachers who took part in this research proved to increase in general. Similarly, they were observed to be more successful in the categories of 'materials' and 'Real life conditions' while they had difficulties in the categories of 'pre-skills', 'evaluation', 'Storytelling' and 'duration'. The results that will arise through this study are thought to contribute positively to unplugged coding training, which is still carried out in a limited amount.
