Action Research on Improving the Speaking Skills of Primary School 2nd Grade Students with Music-Based Activities

Abstract

Konuşma becerisi, insanların; küçük yaşlardan yaşamlarının sonuna kadar iletişim kurmasında ve kendilerini ifade etmelerinde yaşamları boyunca önemli yeri olan bir dil becerisidir. İnsanların sosyalleşmelerine de katkı sağlayan konuşma becerisinin, küçük yaşlardan itibaren geliştirilmesi son derece önemlidir. Günümüzde konuşma becerisinin geliştirilmesine yönelik yapılan ulusal ve uluslararası araştırmalarda konuşma becerisini geliştirmek için çeşitli yöntemlerden, tekniklerden ve farklı araçlardan yararlanıldığı görülmektedir. Konuşma becerisinin geliştirilmesinde, müzik ve dil gelişimi arasındaki ilişki düşünüldüğünde müzik temelli etkinlikler; yararlanılabilecek farklı araçlardandır. Bu bilgiler ışığında bu araştırmada; aksiyon araştırması sürecinde, müzik temelli etkinliklerle ilkokul 2. Sınıf öğrencilerinin konuşma becerisinin geliştirilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Yöntem olarak bu araştırmada, eleştirel kuram yaklaşımında yer alan aksiyon araştırması yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma gurubu, amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden kolay ulaşılabilir örnekleme yöntemi ile Muş ili Malazgirt ilçesinde merkezi bir ilkokulda 2. sınıf düzeyinde öğrenim gören ve pandemi şartlarından dolayı EBA üzerinden uzaktan eğitim ders platformları aracılığı ile gerçekleştirilen derslere katılabilen 4 öğrenciden oluşturulmuştur. Araştırma sürecinde öğrencilerin konuşma becerilerini geliştirmek için EBA üzerinden uzaktan eğitim ders platformları aracılığıyla gerçekleştirilen derslere katılan öğrenciler ile çeşitli uygulamalar yapılmıştır. Bu uygulamalar pandemi şartlarından dolayı EBA üzerinden uzak eğitim ders platformları aracılıyla gerçekleştirilmiş ve toplam 10 hafta sürmüştür. Araştırma sürecinde hem öğrencilerin konuşma becerilerinin gelişimlerini izlemek hem de veri toplamak amacıyla gözlem formu, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme, alan notları ve araştırmacı günlüğü araçlarından yararlanılmıştır. Bu süreçte toplanan nitel veriler, betimsel analiz ve içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonunda elde edilen bulgulara göre müzik temelli etkinliklerin, ilkokul 2. sınıf öğrencilerinin konuşma becerilerinin geliştirilmesine katkı sağladığı ve öğrencilerin konuşma becerilerinin geliştirilmesinde yararlanılabilecek bir araç olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ulaşılan sonuçlar doğrultusunda öğretmenlere ve araştırmacılara yönelik çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Today, it is seen that various methods, techniques and different tools are used to improve speaking skills in national and international researches on the development of speaking skills. Considering the relationship between music and language development in the development of speaking skills, music-based activities; are different tools that can be used. In the light of this information, in this research; In the action research process, it is aimed to improve the speaking skills of primary school 2nd grade students with music-based activities. As a method, in this research, the action research method, which is included in the critical theory approach, was used. The study group of the research consisted of 4 students who were studying at the 2nd grade level in a central primary school in the Malazgirt district of Muş province with the easily accessible sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods, and who could attend the courses held through the distance education course platforms over EBA due to the pandemic conditions. In order to improve the speaking skills of the students during the research process, various applications were made with the students who participated in the courses held through the distance education course platforms over EBA. Due to the pandemic conditions, these applications were carried out via distance education course platforms over EBA and lasted for a total of 10 weeks. In the research process, observation form, semi-structured interview, field notes and researcher diary tools were used both to monitor the development of students' speaking skills and to collect data. The qualitative data collected in this process were analyzed by descriptive analysis and content analysis. According to the findings obtained at the end of the research, it was concluded that music-based activities contribute to the development of the speaking skills of the primary school 2nd grade students and that they are a tool that can be used in the development of the speaking skills of the students.
