Investigation of Practical Knowledge of Primary School Teachers in Life Science Lesson

Abstract

Bu araştırma ile sınıf öğretmenlerinin Hayat Bilgisi dersindeki pratik bilgilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından çoklu durum çalışması (multiple case study) yöntemi ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışmanın araştırma grubu, Yozgat ilinde Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı ilkokullarda görev yapan sekiz öğretmenden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma grubundaki öğretmenlerin belirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt ve uygun durum örneklemesi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak, öğretmenlerle yapılan görüşmelerden, gözlemlerden ve dokümanlardan yararlanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analiz edilmesinde tematik ve sürekli karşılaştırmalı analiz türünden yararlanılmıştır. Yapılan araştırma sonucunda, sınıf öğretmenlerinin Hayat Bilgisi dersindeki pratik bilgileri, program bilgisi, alan bilgisi, pedagojik içerik bilgisi, genel pedagojik bilgisi, eğitim durumları bilgisi, öğrenciler ve onların özellikleri bilgisi, öğretmenler ve onların özellikleri bilgisi, aile rolü bilgisi ile özel gün ve haftalar bilgisi başlıkları altında ortaya çıkmış ve kategorilendirilmiştir. Öğretmenlerin çoğunun Hayat Bilgisi dersinde teknoloji ve materyal kullanımında benimsedikleri ile kullanımdaki kuramlarının örtüşmediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bunun yanında öğretmenlerin Hayat Bilgisi dersinde benimsedikleri ve kullanımdaki kuramlarına yönelik boşluklar olmasına rağmen bu kuramların genellikle örtüştüğü bulunmuştur. Araştırma sonuçlarına dayalı olarak, öğretmenlerin teknoloji ve materyal kullanımlarının incelenmesine yönelik çalışmalar yapılabilir. İleride yapılabilecek araştırmalara yönelik öneri olarak ise, sınıf öğretmenlerinin Hayat Bilgisi dersindeki pratik bilgilerinin belirlenmesine yönelik farklı sınıf kademelerinde çalışmalar yapılabilir.With this research, it is aimed to investigate the practical knowledge of primary school teachers in Life Science lesson. The research was conducted with the multi-case study method, one of the qualitative research approaches. The research group of the study consists of eight teachers working in primary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Yozgat. Criterion and appropriate case sampling, which are among purposeful sampling methods, were used in determining the teachers in the study group. In the research, interviews with teachers, observations and documents were used as data collection tools. Thematic and constant comparative analysis type was used in the analysis of the obtained data. As a result of the research, the practical knowledge of the primary school teachers in the Life Science lesson emerged under the headings of curriculum knowledge, content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, general pedagogical knowledge, knowledge of educational situations, knowledge of students and their characteristics, knowledge of teachers and their characteristics, knowledge of family role and knowledge of special days and weeks. It has been concluded that most of the teachers' in the use of technology and materials in the Life Science lesson do not overlap with the espoused theory and theories-in-use. In addition, although there are gaps in the theories adopted by the teachers in the Life Science lesson and in use, it has been found that these theories generally overlap. Based on the results of the research, studies can be conducted to examine teachers' use of technology and materials. As a suggestion for future research, studies can be conducted at different grade levels to determine the practical knowledge of primary school teachers in the Life Science lesson.
