Action Research on the Improvement of Technology Literacy Skills in a Multigrade Class

Abstract

Eğitim-öğretim süreci günümüze kadar çeşitli değişimler göstermiştir. Bunun başlıca nedenlerinden biri teknolojinin zamanla göstermiş olduğu hızlı gelişimlerdir. Gelişen teknoloji öğretmen ve öğrencilerden beklenen nitelikleri de değiştirmiştir. Artık 21. yy becerilerine sahip, teknoloji okuryazarı olan öğrenciler yetiştirilmektedir. Öğrencilerin teknoloji okuryazarlıklarının geliştirilmesi de öğretmenlere düşmektedir. Kırsal yerleşim yerlerinde teknolojik araç-gereç eksikliği, öğretmenlerin bu bölgelerdeki işini daha da zorlaştırmaktadır. Öğretmenler karşılaştıkları sorunlara çözümler getirerek eğitim ortamını çocuklara uygun hale getirmektedir. Özellikle kırsal bölgelerdeki sorunları çözmek ve öğrencilere uygun eğitim ortamını sağlamak öğretmenlerin sorumluluklarını da artırmaktadır. Bu sebeple bu çalışmada kırsal bir bölgede, birleştirilmiş sınıfta okuyan öğrencilerin aksiyon araştırması aracılığı ile teknoloji okuryazarlıklarının geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma 2020-2021 yılı bahar döneminde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmaya birleştirilmiş sınıfta öğrenci olan 3-4. sınıftan 10 öğrenci katılmıştır. Bu çalışmada aksiyon araştırması yöntemi kullanılmış ve araştırmacı aynı zamanda uygulamada aktif katılımcı olarak çalışmıştır. Araştırma 3-4. sınıf öğrencileri ile çalışılarak bahar döneminin kapsayan bir uygulama yapılmıştır. Bu araştırmada veriler öğretmenin tuttuğu günlükler, öğrenci yazıları (ödevleri), öğretmen gözlem formu ve teknoloji okuryazarlık düzeyini belirleme formu aracılığı ile toplanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin çözümlemesinde betimsel analiz kullanılarak çözümleme yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen verilerden öğrencilerin teknolojik terim bilgisinin, internet ve sosyal medya kullanım becerilerinin, temel bilgisayar kullanma becerilerinin ve teknoloji okuryazarlıklarının geliştiği tespit edilmiştir.Education, the teaching process has experienced various changes recently. One of the main reasons for this is the rapid development in technology over time. Developing technology has also changed the qualifications expected from teachers and students. Hence, technology-literate students with 21st-century skills are being trained. It is also up to teachers to improve the students' technology literacy. The lack of technological equipment in rural settlements makes the work of teachers in these regions more difficult. Teachers make the educational environment suitable for children by bringing solutions to the problems they encounter. Especially solving problems in rural areas and providing a suitable educational environment for students increase the responsibilities of teachers. For this reason, this study is aimed at improving the technology literacy of students studying in a multigrade classroom in a rural area through action research. The study was carried out in the spring term of the academic year 2020-2021. 10 students from the combined class of grades participated. In this study, the action research method was used and the researcher also worked as an active participant in the practice. This research with the 3-4 grade students covered the fall semester. In this study, data were collected through the diaries kept by the teacher, student writings (homework), teacher observation form and technology literacy level determination form. In the analysis of the data obtained in the research, the analysis was made using descriptive analysis. From the data obtained as a result of the research, it has been determined that the students' technological term knowledge, internet and social media usage skills, basic computer usage skills and technology literacy have improved.
