Birinci Kuşak Üniversite Öğrencilerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Günümüzde yükseköğretim kurumlarının sayıca artmaya devametmesiyle birlikte, yükseköğretim kurumlarının öğrenci kontenjanları ve bunabağlı olarak yükseköğretim seviyesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin sayısı dagiderek artmaktadır. Aynı zamanda, ailesinde ilk defa bir yükseköğretimkurumunda öğrenim gören öğrenci sayısı da artmaktadır. Birinci kuşaküniversite öğrencileri olarak adlandırılan bu öğrenci grubunun genelözelliklerinin ve üniversite eğitimleri boyunca karşılaştıkları durumların vebirinci kuşak olmayan öğrencilerle karşılaştırıldığında ortaya çıkandurumların incelenmesi, daha nitelikli bir yükseköğretim sunmak açısındanönemli görülmektedir. Türkiye’de bu konu odağında bir literatür oluşmadığıdikkate alınarak bu çalışmayla birinci kuşak üniversite öğrencilerinin geneldurumları tespit edilmiş, birinci kuşak olmayan öğrencilerden elde edilensonuçlar ki-kare ve t-testleri kullanılarak karşılaştırılmıştır. Birinci kuşaköğrencilerinin yükseköğretim süreçlerinin birinci yılının sonucunda ortayaçıkan akademik performansları değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar doğrultusundabirinci kuşak üniversite öğrencileriyle ilgili bazı tespitler ve önerilersunulmuştur.As with the increment on the number of the universities in recent years, the quota of students and the actual number of students in universities have been increasing rapidly. At the same time the number of students who is the first college student in his/her family (first generation) has been increasing. Considering there is no literature in Turkish, It is regard as important to explore the characteristics of first generation students and the problems they face during their collage life because of the quality of their college life. Also, it is worth to investigate the results of comparison with non-first generation students. Considering there is no literature related to this topic in Turkish, the first generation students were investigated by using chi-square and t-tests in this study. Also the academic performance of first generation students at the end of first year of college was examined and first generation and non-first generation students were compared. Based on the results, some suggestions related to first generation students were made
