Abstract
This study aims to determine the self-efficacy of Fine Arts High School music department students regarding Turkish classical music theory and practice courses. While creating the scale, the achievements in the 9th and 10th-grade Turkish classical music theory and practice courses curriculum at Fine Arts High Schools were considered, and personal information statements deemed to guide the study were also included in the demographic section. The sample of this study consisted of 107 11th and 12th grade Fine Arts High School music students for the first study and 103 students for the second study, who were selected by the convenience sampling method from purposive sampling methods and volunteered to participate in the study. In this study, carried out with the quantitative research method, the data of the research were collected using the 'Turkish Art Music Theory and Practice Courses Self-Efficacy Scale' developed by the researcher and obtained expert opinions from five competent faculty members in the field. The developed scale was prepared in a five-point Likert type (1: Never, 5: Always). The data were analyzed using the SPSS program after the pilot study was applied. In the first results of the study, it was determined that it was a valid and reliable scale with a structure of 18 items and 4 dimensions (koma table, usuls, quartets and quintets, maqams and the elements that form maqams). The developed scale was re-applied to the same group in its final form, and according to the research results, the self-efficacy perception of Fine Arts High School students participating in the study regarding TSM theory and practice courses was determined to be in the 'sometimes' range (medium level). According to the sub-dimension scores, the highest self-efficacy perception was related to 'maqams and elements constituting maqams' and 'koma table,' while the lowest self-efficacy perception scores were related to 'usuls' and 'quartets and quintets.' It was found that the scores for the koma table, usuls, maqams, elements constituting maqams, and the total scale did not show a significant difference based on gender; however, the sub-dimension score for fourths and fifths showed a significant difference based on gender, with male participants scoring significantly higher than female participants. Additionally, it was determined that self-efficacy regarding Turkish classical music theory and practice courses, scale, and sub-dimension scores did not show a significant difference based on class level, individual instrument, or the preference for listening to Turkish classical music, Turkish folk music, pop music, arabesque, foreign music, classical Western music, and rap music in their family. Based on the research results, it is suggested that the education provided within the scope of Turkish classical music theory and practice courses be supported as much as possible by correlating it with Instrument Education, Turkish classical music choir, and Instrument Ensembles courses, and that students' self-efficacy perceptions towards these courses be increased by ensuring that the practices they perform within the scope of Turkish classical music theory and practice courses are included in activities such as presentations and recitals.
