Abstract
Feminism has emerged as a critical mode of thought that developed within historical and social contexts, opposing gender-based inequalities and questioning the social and individual existence of women. As a response to the labeling of femininity through socially constructed roles and norms, feminism has evolved not only as an ideological stance but also as a creative practice manifested in the field of art. Within this framework, feminist art theories aim to deconstruct the ideological foundations behind aesthetic representations and to reconfigure the visual portrayal of the female body. This study, titled 'Feminist Readings in the Works of Turkish Male Artists Between 1980 and 2010,' investigates how the female figure is represented in the artworks of male artists during the specified period through a feminist theoretical lens. The research is based on the idea that the representation of women in art is not merely an aesthetic choice but is directly linked to issues of social dominance, gender roles, and ideological constructs. The study evaluates various works of art from the period in terms of how the female image is transformed, fixed, or reproduced. The significance of the research lies in making the implicit meanings of female representation in male-produced artworks visible and revealing how these representations intersect with feminist art theories. In this regard, the study contributes both to the historiography of art in Turkey and to broader debates on gender and representation. The findings indicate that during the period in question, although traditional patterns of representation largely persisted, a number of artists began to critically question these forms of female representation.
