Sayısal Fontun Gelişiminde Emigre Dergisinin Rolü ve Etkisi

Abstract

Postmodern tasarım dilinin yaygınlaşmaya başladığı bir evrede, uluslararası bir tipografi süreli yayını olarak Emigre yayın hayatına başlar. Ancak bu zaman diliminde ortaya çıkan son derece çarpıcı ve devrimsel teknolojik gelişmelere de hızlı bir biçimde uyum sağlayarak eşlik eder. Üstelik bununla yetinmez. Masaüstü yayıncılık sürecinin gelişimini etkileme ve yönlendirmede önemli bir belirleyici güç olur. Ülkemizdeki alan yazında bu süreli yayının postmodern tasarım dilinin gelişimine etki ve katkıları pek incelenmediği gibi, derginin tasarımcıları tarafından geliştirilen fontların nitelikleri de pek anlaşılmış değildir. Nitel araştırma yöntemi olarak literatür taramasına dayanan bu makalenin amacı, Emigre’nin yerine getirdiği misyonu tanımlamak, tasarımcıları tarafından geliştirilen fontların özellikleri konusunda alan yazına katkıda bulunmaktır.Emigre, an international typography periodical, begins its publication life at a time when the postmodern design language begins to become widespread. However, it also quickly adapts and accompanies the extremely striking and revolutionary technological developments that emerged during this period. Moreover, it is not enough. It becomes an significant force in influencing and directing the development of the desktop publishing process. In the literature in our country, the effects and contributions of this periodical to the development of the postmodern design language have not been extensively examined, and the qualities of the fonts developed by the designers of the magazine have not been fully understood. The aim of this article, which is based on literature review as a qualitative research method, is to define the mission of Emigre and to contribute to the literature on the features of the fonts developed by its designers.
