Abstract
This study aims to investigate the acute effects of kinesio taping applied to the quadriceps femoris and triceps surae muscles on leg stiffness, sprint, vertical jump, and reactive agility performance in soccer players. The research was conducted with 19 male soccer players aged 18-21, who play for amateur football teams in Trabzon. A single-group pretest-posttest design was employed in the study. Four different measurements were taken from the participants: without taping, with quadriceps femoris muscle taping, with triceps surae muscle taping, and with both muscles taped together. Measurements were taken 45 minutes after the taping application. Performance parameters were evaluated using the Microgate OptoJump system, photocells, and SpeedCourt device. Leg stiffness performance was assessed with the leg stiffness test, sprint performance with the 30-meter sprint test, vertical jump performance with the counter movement jump (CMJ) and drop jump tests, and agility performance with the SpeedCourt device. The taping application was performed on the dominant lower extremity using the muscle facilitation technique by a certified physiotherapist. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 25, with a significance level set at p<0.05. The effects of kinesio taping on performance variables were evaluated using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). Significant differences were further analyzed with Bonferroni Post Hoc Test. According to the findings, the effect of kinesio taping on leg stiffness performance was not statistically significant (p=0.635). Similarly, no significant differences were found in sprint performance (p=0.839) or vertical jump performance (p=0.085). However, when the results of reactive agility performance were examined, it was determined that kinesio taping led to a significant improvement in this parameter (p=0.000). In conclusion, kinesio taping applied to the quadriceps femoris and triceps surae muscles positively influenced the reactive agility performance of young soccer players, while no significant effects were observed on leg stiffness, sprint, or vertical jump performance. It is recommended that future studies should involve larger sample sizes and longer-term investigations. Keywords: Kinesio Taping, Leg Stiffness, Sprint, Vertical Jump, Agility, Performance
