TIMSS 2019 Fen Bilimleri Dersinde Canlı Bilimleri Konusunda Ülke Ortalamasının Altında Kalma Sebeplerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

TIMSS 2019 Fen Bilimleri Dersinde Canlı Bilimleri Konusunda Ülke Ortalamasının Altında Kalma Sebeplerinin İncelenmesi Bu çalışmanın amacı, TIMSS 2019 sonuçlarına göre 5. Sınıf öğrencilerinin Fen Bilimi Dersi 'Canlı Bilimleri' içerik alanında ülke ortalamasının altında kalmasının nedenlerinin incelenmesidir. Bu bağlamda aşağıda yer alan iki alt problem cevaplanmaya çalışılmıştır. 1) Türkiye'nin TIMSS 2019 Fen Bilimleri 'Canlı Bilimleri' içerik alanında öğrencilerin ortalama altında kaldıkları konular nelerdir? 2) TIMSS 2019 Fen Bilimleri araştırmasının örnekleminde yer alan Trabzon ilindeki öğrencilerin bu konularda yaptıkları yanlışların nedenleri nelerdir? Araştırmanın birinci kısmında TIMSS 2019 Uluslararası Veritabanı Kullanım Kılavuzu (User Guide forthe International Database) verileri incelenerek doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Doküman verileri RStudio programında incelenerek kutu grafikleri çizilmiştir. Elde edilen grafiklere göre 'Canlı Bilimleri' içerik alanında'ekosistem' konusuna ait sorularda Türkiye en az başarı göstermiştir. Araştırmanın ikinci kısmında ise 2021-2022 Eğitim-Öğretim yılının ikinci döneminde Trabzon Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü'ne bağlı bir ortaokulun 8. Sınıfında öğrenim gören 16 öğrenci ile yürütülen araştırmada, tarama (survery)yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Ölçme aracı olarak TIMSS 2019 Fen Bilimleri 'Canlı Bilimleri' içerik alanı kazanımları ile uyumlu hazırlanmış olan açık uçlu fen soruları kullanılmıştır. Öğrenci cevapları incelendiği zaman 'Canlı Bilimleri' içerik alanında 'ekosistem' konusuna ait sorulara en az doğru cevap verilmiştir. İki araştırma sonucuna da bakıldığı zaman Türkiye'nin Fen Bilimi 'Canlı Bilimleri' içerik alanına ait en başarısız olduğu alt konu başlığı 'Ekosistem'dir. İkinci en başarısız alt konu başlığı 'Yaşam Döngüleri, Üreme ve Kalıtım'dir. 'Ekosistem' konusu anlatılırken canlıların özelliklerinin ayrıntılı şekilde verilmesi önerilmektedir. 'Yaşam Döngüleri, Üreme ve Kalıtım' konusuna 5. Sınıf Canlılar Dünyası ünitesinde yer verilebilir.Research on the reason of being under the average of country in the topic of life science in the field of science classes according to the report of TIMSS 2019 The purpose of this study is researching the reasons of 5th grade students being under the success average of country in the content field of 'life science' in science classes. Thus, it is tried to answer two questions below. 1) What are the topics in the content field of life science in science classes that students are under the overage of success according to TIMSS 2019 reports? 2) What are the reasons of mistakes that students residence in Trabzon do, according to the Report of TIMSS 2019 in the field of science. In the first part of the research, document analysis method was used to collect the data from the TIMSS 2019 User Guide for the International Database. The boxplotswere charted after researching the document data in the application named RStudio. According to the boxplots, Turkey shows the worst performance in the questions of 'ecosystem' in the content field of 'life science'. In the second part of research, survey method was used to gather data from sixteen eighth grade students having education in a secondary school dependent to the Trabzon National Education Management in the second term of 2021-2022 Education year. Open ended questions prepared in harmony with TIMSS 2019 science field acquisitions, were used as the measuring instrument. When students' answers are researched, it is seen that the least true answers were given about the topic 'ecosystem' in the content field of 'life science'. 'Ecosystem' is the worst performance showed topic in the content field of 'life science' in science classes by Turkish students, when we look at the results of two researches. The secondworstperformance showed topic is 'life cycles reproduction and genetic'. It is the suggested to give details about the characteristics of species when the topic 'ecosystem' is processed. 'Life cycles reproduction and genetic' should take part in 5th grades, species of living beings unit.
