Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine primary school teachers' views on the use of out-of school learning environments within the scope of the Science course. The research was conducted with 25 primary school teachers working in primary schools located in the city center of Erzurum during the 2024–2025 academic year. Designed within the case study research, the study aims to reveal the qualitatively different ways in which teachers perceive and interpret out-of-school learning. The participants consisted of teachers responsible for teaching Science to 3rd- and 4th grade students. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher and analyzed using a content analysis approach. The findings indicate that teachers consider out-of-school learning environments as valuable pedagogical tools that enhance student motivation, foster curiosity, and support the development of scientific process skills. Teachers emphasized that such environments contribute to more permanent learning by transforming abstract science concepts into concrete experiences. However, several challenges limiting the implementation of out-of-school learning activities were also identified. These challenges include lengthy bureaucratic procedures, transportation and safety concerns, limited financial resources, time constraints, and difficulties in planning effective activities. Overall, the results demonstrate that out of-school learning has the potential to enrich the Science curriculum and provide meaningful learning experiences. Yet, for these practices to be implemented effectively and sustainably, strengthened institutional, structural, and systemic support mechanisms are required. Therefore, integrating out of-school learning into Science education cannot rely solely on teachers' individual efforts; instead, it necessitates comprehensive policies and coordinated institutional support.
