Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye’de farklı üniversitelerdeki ilköğretim matematik öğretmeni (İMÖ) adaylarının matematik öğretmeye hazır olma, öğretmen eğitimi programının tutarlılığı ve etkinliğine ilişkin inançlarını karşılaştırmalı olarak ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Türkiye’nin farklı bölgelerinde yer alan 21 üniversitedeki dördüncü sınıfta öğrenim gören 1431 İMÖ adayı oluşturmaktadır. Üniversitelerin belirlenmesinde Türkiye İstatistiki Bölge Birimleri Sınıflandırmasında (İBBS) Düzey 1’deki 12 bölge dikkate alınmıştır. Veriler Teacher Education and Development Study in Mathematics (TEDS-M) çalışmasında kullanılan Türkçeye uyarlaması yapılan “Öğretmen eğitimi programının tutarlılığı hakkında inançlar”, “Öğretmen eğitimi programının etkinliği hakkındaki inançlar” ve “Matematik öğretmeye hazır olma hakkındaki inançlar” ölçeğinden toplanmıştır.
The aim of the study is to reveal pre-service elementary mathematics teachers’ (PEMTs) beliefs about preparedness for teaching mathematics, consistency of teacher education program and the program effectiveness, and to compare the regional differences. The sample of study was composed of 1431 PEMTs registered to 21 different universities as 4th year students in Turkey. 12 regions determined in Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) Level 1 were considered during the selection of sample universities. As data collection tools in this study, “Beliefs about coherence of the teacher education program”, “Beliefs about program effectiveness” and “Beliefs about preparedness for teaching mathematics” scales which were developed in Teacher Education and Development Study in Mathematics (TEDS-M) study were used. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS packet software. The results obtained from the research revealed that the PEMTs have a relatively positive belief about the consistency of the teacher education program and the program effectiveness, and they believe that they are ready to teach mathematics. In addition, the results indicated that the PEMTs beliefs differ in terms of the regions where the universities are located. It has been determined that these differentiations center in favor and against in some regions. Qualitative studies are recommended to examine the possible causes of these results in depth.
