Abstract
This study examines how material culture influences the shaping of religious individuals' beliefs, values, and practices in relation to their desire to be seen, shown, and perceived in society. The study aims to interpret how religious display is achieved through various means such as consumption, the economy, television, fame, the internet, social media, the body, and fashion. The study employed document analysis, a qualitative research method. The obtained documents underwent a thorough content analysis in line with the research objectives. The study begins by providing the historical background and definitions of the 'exhibition society'. It then analyses the new human situations of the current period by referring to theories and approaches of postmodern thinkers in sociology. This leads to the theoretical construction of the exhibition society. The language used is clear, concise, and objective, with a formal register and precise word choice. The text adheres to conventional structure and formatting features, with consistent citation and footnote style. The sentences and paragraphs create a logical flow of information with causal connections between statements. The text is free from grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and punctuation errors. No changes in content have been made. In addition, in this study, it is analysed whether the masses who have religious sensitivities and define themselves as religious have shaped their religious norms according to the practices of the exhibition society. The study exemplifies cases where individuals who follow Islam and have moral doubts about unnecessary, luxurious, and ostentatious consumption offered by modern consumerism find a middle ground. They oppose it at the level of discourse but resemble the consumption culture at the level of behaviour. Additionally, the study mentions the inclusion of religion in the television narrative within the show world. Thirdly, it is noted that religious individuals who voluntarily engage in new communication environments may quickly depart from traditional lifestyles and their associated patterns. Over time, these individuals may alter their perception of privacy due to feelings of curiosity, surveillance, and exposure. Finally, the text discusses the challenge of balancing fashion and hijab in the context of the perseption of the body, which is constantly subject to change.
