Abstract
This study aimed to examine the elementary school teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs toward the physical education and play course. The study was designed as a case study. The sample consisted of eight elementary school teachers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for data collection. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The analysis revealed eight themes which were the reasons for teachers’ incompetence in the physical education and play classes, the reasons for their not being able to bring the lessons to a conclusion, the reasons for students’ non-participation in the classes, the methods and techniques used in teaching the course and the assessment of student performance, the problems experienced during the classes, the factors that ensure the efficient flow of the classes, the attitudes of school administrators, colleagues and parents towards the course, and teachers’ contribution to students during classes. The findings showed that the participating teachers considered self-efficacy to be low in terms of content knowledge, knowledge of games, and physical fitness.
