Abstract
As of the 2017-2018 academic year in Turkey, the Entrance Exam for High Schools came to the fore and changes were made in the question structures with this examination system. With these changes, new generation questions have come to the fore. New generation questions aim to measure high-level thinking skills such as inference, problem solving, analysis, critical thinking. Considering the relationship between students' perceptions on a subject, their success in the course, their interest in the course, and their effort for the course, it is important to determine students' perceptions of new generation science questions. For this reason, it can be said that measurement tools are needed to determine students' perceptions of new generation science questions. Therefore, the aim of the current research is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that will make it possible to measure students' perceptions of new generation science questions. The current research was designed as a measurement tool development study. During the development of the measurement tool, a total of 495 students attending the eighth and ninth grades from 20 provinces participated in the research for Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). For the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), a total of 525 eighth grade students from nine provinces participated. The Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale, which was finalized at the end of the EFA process, was calculated as 0.95. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the scale had a three-factor structure. It was determined that the factor load values of the scale items took values between 0.49 and 0.74. Then, CFA was performed to verify the factor structure of the measurement tool developed with EFA. As a result of DFA, it was determined that the SRMR value, which is one of the fit indices, was at a good level, and χ2/sd, GFI, AGFI, NFI, NNFI, CFI, RMSEA values were at acceptable levels. As a result of the research, a valid and reliable measurement tool with a three-factor (self-efficacy, attitude and willingness) structure consisting of 26 items was developed to measure students' perceptions of new generation science questions.
