Abstract
The purpose of the scope of this study, the practices of primary school teachers in problem solving processes were examined by considering Polya's four problem solving steps (understanding the problem, making a plan, applying the plan, evaluating). The research, in which qualitative research was adopted as an approach, was descriptive and carried out in a special case design. In the study carried out with 30 classroom teachers, the professional experience of the teachers ranged from 1 to 14 years. There are routine and non-routine problems that include the weighing sub-learning domain in the problem solving skill test developed by the researchers and whose validity and reliability studies have been carried out. The data obtained from the data collection tools were analyzed descriptively using the rubric developed by the researchers. As a result, it is seen that the classroom teachers have deficiencies in the application of the knowledge about problem solving that they have presented in theory and that the evaluation step is not included in the problem solving processes. It was seen that none of the participants applied all the problem solving steps of Polya in the problem solving processes belonging to the sub-learning domain of weighing. It is another result that the problem solving step that is never mentioned is the evaluation step, and the most emphasized ones are the planning and implementation steps. With the evaluation made, it has been revealed that there is no direct relationship between the professional experience of the classroom teachers who show different competencies in terms of problem solving success and their competency levels.
