Abstract
Sayyid Muḥammad Lubbī Efendi was a scholar who lived in the eighteenth century, served as the director of the library at the Ottoman palace, and translated some important works such as Shifā-i Sherīf, Mashārik-ı Sherīf, Vikāye and Mustetraf, which are accepted as sources in Islamic sciences, into Turkish by order of Dārüssaāde Agha Beşir Agha, and wrote some others. One of his works is a detached tafsīr of the Sūrat al-Fatḥ, which bears the title Tuḥfet al-Fatḥiyya. This tafsīr in the form of a fourteen-leaf treatise is only found in the Numanzādes Family Library. To date, no study has been conducted on the life and works of Lubbī Efendi. Only some of his works are mentioned by name in some sources, and some of them are not touched upon at all. Considering his works in the field of copyright and translation and the position he held in the palace, it has been concluded that an academic study on this person and his works is necessary. In addition, it was thought that it would be useful to present the tafsir of Sūrat al-Fatḥ, which is not found in any official library, but only in the library of an ulema family living in the countryside, for the benefit of the scientific community. For this purpose, the life and works of Sayyid Muḥammad Lubbī Effendi and his treatise titled Tuḥfet al-Fatḥiyya will be analyzed briefly within the framework of an article and the text of the treatise will be added at the end of the article. In this way, one of the lost links of the Ottoman tafsīr heritage will be brought to light and a new one will be added to the independent literature of Sūrat al-Fatḥ commentaries written during the Ottoman period.
